A jewel thief known as The Phantom signs every crime by leaving a single glove behind. Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers) is certain he knows where the thief will strike next, so he leaves Paris for the Tyrolean Alps, where Princess Dala (Claudia Cardinale) keeps the famous Pink Panther diamond. Blake Edwards sends him after the Phantom, with Sir Charles Lytton (David Niven) close by, and the glove waiting for whoever turns out to be wearing it.
