Jay Bahadur (Evan Peters), a rookie journalist, sells off his life and flies to Somalia after a chance meeting with his idol, Seymour Tolbin (Al Pacino). He hires a local fixer, Abdi (Barkhad Abdi), to get him inside with the pirates, and he is quickly in over his head. Bryan Buckley keeps Jay at the center of it, notebook out, his mother Maria (Melanie Griffith) a long way off.
