The Plainsman

(1936)Directed by Cecil B. DeMille113 minWestern, War, Romance
“IT'S MIGHTY OUTDOOR ADVENTURE!”

Wild Bill Hickok (Gary Cooper) rides west with Buffalo Bill Cody (James Ellison) and Calamity Jane (Jean Arthur), and the frontier is already full of trouble. A gunrunner named Lattimer (Charles Bickford) is selling rifles to the Indians, and the three of them are caught between his trade and the army. DeMille opens with Abraham Lincoln and crams Custer into the same story, with little care for the calendar.
