The Pride of the Yankees

(1942)Directed by Sam Wood128 minDrama, Family
“Intimate and thrilling drama of a hero of the headlines... the girl who had his love and shared his life, but dared not question his one secret!”

Lou Gehrig (Gary Cooper) wants to play ball, while his mother wants him to become an engineer. Sam Wood follows him from the sandlots to first base for the New York Yankees, with Babe Ruth (Babe Ruth) playing himself in the clubhouse. Through all of it, Eleanor Twitchell (Teresa Wright) stays in his corner, and the marriage the two build is where the film puts its weight.
