The Prince and the Showgirl

(1957)Directed by Laurence Olivier115 minComedy, Romance
“SOME COUNTRIES HAVE A MEDAL FOR EVERYTHING”

Why would the Prince Regent of a foreign country invite an American showgirl to a private supper? Elsie (Marilyn Monroe) is that guest, and she has no idea she has wandered into a game of political intrigue. Laurence Olivier directs and plays the Regent, and the picture sets his stiff, scheming royalty against Elsie's easy warmth, with good manners and plain feeling pulling at each other.
