The Prisoner

(1955)Directed by Peter Glenville95 minDrama

The Cardinal (Alec Guinness) was a hero to his people when they fought the Nazis, and he is a hero still after a second conqueror took the country. Now he sits in a prison cell, arrested for treason, facing the Interrogator (Jack Hawkins), who wants a signed confession that would end the Cardinal's hold over the public. Peter Glenville keeps the two men in a small room, and Guinness has only his own stubborn faith to hold onto.
