The Private Life of Henry VIII

(1933)Directed by Alexander Korda97 minHistory, Drama
“HE GAVE HIS WIVES A PAIN IN THE NECK, And did his necking with an axe. Henry, the Eighth Wonder of the World! And this picture...the wonder of all time!”

Anne Boleyn is executed for treason, and Henry VIII (Charles Laughton) marries the maid Jane Seymour before the court has finished talking about it. When that marriage also ends in grief, the king, restless and never one to stay single, takes German-born Anne of Cleves as his next wife. Alexander Korda follows a man who tears through his wives and cannot work out why none of them leaves him any less alone.
