Fardan (Lee Marvin) wants one more paying job, and a Texas millionaire has one: bring back his kidnapped wife from the Mexican bandit Jesus Raza (Jack Palance). Fardan gathers three other hired hands, among them Dolworth (Burt Lancaster) and Jake (Woody Strode), and rides south during the Mexican Revolution. Richard Brooks shoots the border country bleached and wide, and keeps all four men in frame together as the miles pile up.
