Bill Forrester (Gregory Peck), a Canadian bomber pilot at an RAF airfield in Burma in 1945, wants nothing but the next dangerous mission, and his flying has turned reckless since his wife was killed in the London bombing. His comrades call him a madman, while Dr. Harris (Bernard Lee), the squadron physician, is determined to reach him. Robert Parrish, working from H.E. Bates's novel, shot the film on location in Ceylon and at Pinewood Studios.
