Chris Gardner (Will Smith) is a struggling salesman whose life is collapsing: he's behind on rent and his wife has left. He lands an unpaid internship at a prestigious brokerage firm, a chance that means sleeping in shelters and subway stations while he works toward a full-time job. Every morning he wakes his son and they move through the city together, the boy watching his father refuse to quit.
