The Queen of Spain

“Lights. Camera. Distraction.”

Macarena Granada (Penélope Cruz) fled Nazi Germany for Hollywood and became a star, and in the 1950s she wants to go home to Spain as its Queen Isabella. The Hollywood production she leads is a blockbuster about Isabella I of Castile, shot in a country still under Franco. Fernando Trueba picks up the characters from his earlier film, The Girl of Your Dreams, and sets them among film people who have left Spain and come back.
