The Quiet American

“In war, the most powerful weapon is seduction.”

Thomas Fowler (Michael Caine) is a British journalist in Vietnam who has been there long enough to stop believing in much of anything except Phuong (Đỗ Thị Hải Yến), the young Vietnamese woman he loves. Then Alden Pyle (Brendan Fraser), a young American official, arrives and starts courting her. Phillip Noyce follows Fowler as he watches the younger man's easy confidence, and Fowler, who has always kept out of other people's wars, finds himself taking a side.
