The Racket

(1951)Directed by John Cromwell88 minCrime, Thriller
“The Racket boldly begins where the Senate crime committee left off!”

Somewhere above the city, a national crime syndicate has set up shop in town, and nobody on the force seems to notice or care. Captain Thomas McQuigg (Robert Mitchum) is the one honest cop left, and with his loyal patrolman Johnson (William Talman) he goes after Nick Scanlon (Robert Ryan), the local boss who answers to it. John Cromwell leaves the two men facing each other in a squad room, McQuigg at his desk, Scanlon across the city.
