The Reading

In 2023, in the house where her family died, the writer Emma Leeden (Mo'Nique) sits down to finish a book about the home invasion that left her a widow. For the press, she agrees to a staged reading led by Sky Brown (Chasity Sereal), a 19-year-old who claims a spiritual connection. Courtney Glaude's debut keeps the two women in the same rooms, Emma guarded and grieving, the girl certain she is being heard by someone else.
