The Red Lanterns

(1963)Directed by Vasilis Georgiadis132 minDrama
“Daring! Realistic! Overwhelming!”

Five women share a brothel by the harbor at Piraeus, and the stories of their lives are tangled together so tightly that none can be told apart from the others. Vasilis Georgiadis follows Eleni (Jenny Karezi) and the men who pass through the house, among them a ship captain, Nikolas Maroukis (Manos Katrakis). Eleni has to find a way to live with the work, the neighbors, and the people she can't easily leave.
