The Replacements

“Throw the ball. Catch the girl. Keep it simple.”

A players' strike has emptied the Washington Sentinels' roster, and the team brings in Jimmy McGinty (Gene Hackman), an old-guard coach, to get them to the playoffs anyway. He pulls out a private dossier of ex-players who never got a chance, or blew the one they had, and starts with Shane Falco (Keanu Reeves). Howard Deutch fills the huddles and sidelines with a crowded bench of oddballs and gives each of them room to be funny.
