The day a South American president, Novalès (Folco Lulli), dines at his grand Paris restaurant, M. Septime (Louis de Funès) finds that his famous guest has vanished. Suddenly the owner is tangled in a crime he never asked for, with a divisional commissaire (Bernard Blier) at his shoulder and Jacques Besnard's camera following the chaos. Septime and the commissaire are thrown together, two men who cannot stand each other and cannot get free of each other.
