The Return of Doctor X

Walter Garrett (Wayne Morris), a newspaper reporter, finds the actress Angela Merrova dead in her hotel room, stabbed several times. By the time he brings the police back, the room is empty and the body is gone, and Merrova turns up at his paper alive and furious. Vincent Sherman keeps the story moving in the cramped corridors of a plain city hotel, a Warner Bros. programmer built around a reporter who has to prove he is not a liar.
