The Return of Frank James

(1940)Directed by Fritz Lang92 minWestern
“Encore triumph from 20th Century-Fox.”

Frank James (Henry Fonda) is working as a farmer, done with the outlaw life, when word comes that his brother Jesse has been shot in the back by the Ford brothers. He sets out after them with Clem (Jackie Cooper), the young ward who rides at his side. Fritz Lang's first Western follows the hunt, and Gene Tierney, in her first film, plays a Denver Star reporter whose pages could put Frank in front of the law again.
