The Return of Martin Guerre

(1982)Directed by Daniel Vigne107 minDrama, History
“Truth and falsehood have both alike countenances...”

A man walks into the village of Artigat in 1542 and says he is Martin Guerre, who vanished almost ten years earlier after he was accused of a robbery. Bertrande de Rols (Nathalie Baye) and the rest of the family take him in, and Gérard Depardieu plays the stranger in Daniel Vigne's film. Doubts about who he is begin to gather around Bertrande's table and bed, in the house she shares with him.
