Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is dragged into a ravine and mauled by a bear in the 1820s, and the men he guides across the frontier leave him behind. John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy) is among those who abandon him. Iñárritu follows Glass as he drags his ruined body through the winter, and all he has left is the will to find the men who left him.
