The Revenge

Nobody can say why a Polish castle is split between two enemies who share a roof, but on one winter day the feud decides whether Klara and Waclaw can ever be together. The Cupbearer, a volcanic old soldier, sends the braggart Papkin (Roman Polanski) to ask for the widow Hanna's hand, because he cannot manage the words himself. Wajda stages Fredro's farce, and in the middle of it Klara and Waclaw are two young people the quarrel will not let near each other.
