The Rifleman

Arturs Vanags (Oto Brantevics) is sixteen and in love when the First World War reaches Latvia and takes his mother and his home. Dzintars Dreibergs follows him into one of the new national battalions allowed in the Russian Empire, where the war is nothing like the glory he pictured. His father and brother are killed, the quick end he was promised never comes, and Arturs, alone, has to find a reason to keep going.
