Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts), a journalist, finds a cursed videotape that kills anyone who watches it seven days later. Her son has seen it too, and she has a week to understand what the tape wants before the deadline comes. Verbinski builds the dread in tight spirals, each clue leading deeper into the tape's mystery, until Rachel learns that some debts cannot be outrun, only passed along.
