“Beauty... Mystery... Delightful Humor...”

In 1951 Bengal, a British family lives beside a river, and the daily life of the household is set by its slow water. A teenage girl comes of age there beside two other young women, and the arrival of Capt. John (Thomas E. Breen) stirs the first love among them. Jean Renoir, working in color for the first time, shot all of it on location in India.
