The Road Builder

“A lonely woman in a decaying mansion... A young stranger on a big, black bike.”

Maura Prince (Patricia Neal) is a middle-aged spinster whose days are the same one repeated, spent looking after her adoptive mother, Edith (Pamela Brown), in their large, decaying house. Then a young handyman, Billy Jarvis (Nicholas Clay), turns up looking for work, polite and eager to be useful. Alastair Reid, working from a Roald Dahl screenplay, sets him inside the household, and nobody there yet knows what his visit might cost them.
