“They came for the gold. They stayed for the adventure.”

Tulio (Kevin Kline) and Miguel (Kenneth Branagh) are two Spanish swindlers who win a map to El Dorado with loaded dice, then stow away on a ship and wash ashore in the New World. Bibo Bergeron and Don Paul send them into the city of gold, where the people take them for gods and the pair keep up the lie. Tulio wants the treasure and a quick exit, Miguel wants to stay, and the friendship gets pulled between the two.
