John Patrick Mason (Sean Connery), a former SAS captain, is pulled from his cell when rogue Marines seize Alcatraz Island with chemical weapons and hostages. An FBI chemist named Stanley Goodspeed (Nicolas Cage) is sent in to help, and the two men have to move through the prison together. By the end, what began as mistrust between a spy and a bureaucrat becomes mutual regard.
