The Round-Up
Gajdor János (János Görbe) is one of the men herded into a prison camp on the Hungarian plain after the 1848 revolution fails. The authorities are hunting the followers of the outlaw Sándor Rózsa but cannot tell which prisoners belong to him, so they sort and break the suspects by any means. Jancsó keeps the camp open and exposed, and János waits among the others, watching every man around him and knowing someone in the yard is no longer on his side.
