Chess Story

“He turned resistance into a game.”

In 1938, as German troops march into Vienna, the lawyer Josef Bartok (Oliver Masucci) is stopped by the Gestapo before he and his wife can get out to the USA. Held in solitary confinement and pressed for confidential information, he steals an old chess book, and Philipp Stölzl follows the months of silence that come after. The game is all that keeps his mind working, and the obsession is starting to cost him more than the cell.
