The Rum Diary

“One part outrage. One part justice. Three parts rum. Mix well.”

Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp) is a drifting journalist who wants out of New York and the stiff, buttoned-down America of the late 1950s. He lands at a struggling San Juan newspaper, drinks rum with his colleagues, and falls for Chenault (Amber Heard), engaged to Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart), a businessman with shady property deals. Bruce Robinson, adapting Hunter S. Thompson's novel, leaves Paul a man who writes on the island but has not yet found what he wants to say.
