The Scarlet Pimpernel

Sir Percy Blakeney (Anthony Andrews) wants to pull French aristocrats out of the Revolution's reach, so by day he plays a lace-cuffed fop in English society while by night he becomes the Scarlet Pimpernel. His marriage to the actress Marguerite St. Just (Jane Seymour) tangles with her ties to Chauvelin (Ian McKellen) and Robespierre. Clive Donner stages the whole affair as a costume drama, all velvet and candlelit drawing rooms.
