Captain Geoffrey Thorpe (Errol Flynn) sails against the Spanish treasure ships for Queen Elizabeth (Flora Robson), taking their gold while England and Spain edge toward the launch of the Armada. One of his captures brings aboard Doña Maria (Brenda Marshall), a Spanish noblewoman who wants nothing to do with him. Michael Curtiz directs their tenth film together at full speed, with Erich Wolfgang Korngold's score driving every sword fight and broadside.
