The Sea of Grass

“Big as its stars!”

In the American Southwest, Lutie Cameron (Katharine Hepburn) leaves St. Louis to marry Col. James B. Brewton (Spencer Tracy), a New Mexico cattleman whom the locals call a tyrant. She arrives to find a man who guards his open range against every homesteader who comes to settle it. Elia Kazan films the marriage as it frays, with the people held small against the grass.
