“Everybody agrees MGM's The Search is a wonderful motion picture!”

Karel Malik (Ivan Jandl), a Czech boy who survived Auschwitz, has lost his family and stopped speaking in the rubble of postwar Germany. Ralph Stevenson (Montgomery Clift), an American GI, takes him in and starts teaching him English, while his mother, Hannah (Jarmila Novotná), searches the camps for him. Fred Zinnemann's film is about how much it takes for a child, and a parent, to believe anyone is still alive.
