Dr. Benjamin Marris (David Duchovny) has moved his wife and 16-year-old daughter from Boston to Williamstown, and his daughter Samantha (Olivia Thirlby) treats her mother, Hannah (Lili Taylor), shabbily. After a horrific car crash, Hannah wills Sam to live, and loses her own life as her spirit enters her daughter. Vincent Perez builds the story around what Benjamin stands to lose, a wife he can no longer reach and a daughter he cannot get back.
