The Secret of Santa Vittoria

“In the beginning there was Bombolini the fool, Bombolini the drunk, Bombolini the joke. In the end there was Bombolini the mayor, Bombolini the hero, Bombolini the beautiful. In between is the secret of Santa Vittoria.”

Nobody in Santa Vittoria will say where a million bottles of wine have gone, and the Germans are on their way to find out. Italo Bombolini (Anthony Quinn), the town's buffoon, has been made mayor, and he faces Capt. von Prum (Hardy Krüger), who is set on taking the wine. Stanley Kramer fills the hillside village with Rosa (Anna Magnani) and her neighbors, and Italo, for once, has to be the man in charge.
