A man is said to have died, been buried, and then walked again, and a pharmaceutical company wants the powder that did it. They send Dennis Alan (Bill Pullman), a Harvard anthropologist, into Haiti, where he works with a local doctor, Marielle Duchamp (Cathy Tyson), and meets the feared police captain Dargent Peytraud (Zakes Mokae). Wes Craven shot on location and treats the rites and curses Dennis runs into as a fever he cannot wake from.
