The Servant

(1963)Directed by Joseph Losey116 minDrama
“A Terrifyingly Beautiful Motion Picture!”

Hugo Barrett (Dirk Bogarde) answers a job posting and moves into a London townhouse as valet to Tony (James Fox), a wealthy, idle young aristocrat who has never had to do anything for himself. Hugo cooks and cleans with quiet, flawless competence. Joseph Losey, working from a Harold Pinter script, fills the house with polished banisters, mirrors and stairwells, the rooms growing smaller as the two men settle in.
