The Seventh Cross

(1944)Directed by Fred Zinnemann110 minDrama, War
“His greatest role!”

Germany, 1936: seven men break out of a concentration camp, and the commander has seven crosses put up to receive them. As the Gestapo drags each man back he is killed on one, and the seventh stands empty while George Heisler (Spencer Tracy) makes for Holland. Fred Zinnemann sends him from one ordinary German household to the next, and George has to decide, door by door, whether he can still trust anyone.
