The Shadow of the Day

Luciano Traini (Riccardo Scamarcio) runs a restaurant in Italy in 1938 and wants to keep living by his own rules, even as Jews are barred from public life and he goes on abiding by the fascist order. Then Anna Costanzi (Benedetta Porcaroli) comes to work for him, a young woman with a secret. Giuseppe Piccioni sets their story inside the restaurant, where Luciano's belief that he can stay apart from the regime is the thing most at risk.
