“Mystery-lure of the Far East!”

'Mother' Gin Sling (Ona Munson) runs a gambling house in Shanghai, a clip joint that does well off the people who can least afford it. When the British financier Sir Guy Charteris (Walter Huston) moves to shut her down, she turns to blackmail to keep her doors open. Josef von Sternberg sets the fight among rich patrons and nightclub hangers-on, and for Gin Sling the whole business depends on what she can hold over him.
