Adam (Paul Rudd) is a quiet, unassuming student in a small Midwestern university town, and the new girlfriend in his life is Evelyn (Rachel Weisz), an art student with plans of her own. Neil LaBute adapts his own play, setting four young people in the same few rooms as Adam begins to change and his friends start to notice. The picture stays on Adam, Jenny (Gretchen Mol) and Phillip (Frederick Weller), watching him from across the table.
