The Shepherd of the Hills

(1941)Directed by Henry Hathaway98 minDrama, Western
“He Tamed Their Wild Hearts With His Courage and Won Them With His Love”

In the Ozark Mountains, a feud of old grudges has settled over the hollows. Young Matt Matthews (John Wayne) makes moonshine and nurses a hatred for the father he never met, a man said to have left Matt's mother to die. Henry Hathaway follows the quiet stranger, Daniel Howitt (Harry Carey), whose arrival begins to soften the mountain people, and the long bitterness between father and son.
