The Shining

Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), a recovering alcoholic and aspiring novelist, takes the winter caretaker job at the Overlook Hotel and moves in with his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and their young son Danny (Danny Lloyd). Stanley Kubrick keeps the family shut in with the empty rooms of a mountain resort, cut off from everyone else until the season turns. Danny, who is clairvoyant, wanders the long halls on his tricycle while his father sits down to write.
