“Dive beneath the surface.”

Newfoundland is where Quoyle (Kevin Spacey) ends up, in the family house his ancestors left behind, a long way from the life that flattened him. He arrives with his young daughter and a newspaper job writing about the shipping news, alongside neighbors like Wavey Prowse (Julianne Moore) and his aunt Agnis Hamm (Judi Dench). Lasse Hallström keeps the stakes small and close: a man with nothing left to lose in front of a child who still has everything to lose.
