The Shoes of the Fisherman
“From political prisoner to Pope.”
In 1968, after twenty years in a Soviet gulag, the Ukrainian bishop Kiril Lakota (Anthony Quinn) is released without warning and sent to the Vatican. The Pope dies soon after, and Lakota finds himself in a Rome of cardinals and Cold War politics. Michael Anderson sets him beside Fr. David Telemond (Oskar Werner), a priest whose ideas the Church distrusts, and the two men form a close, uneasy friendship.
