The Silver Chalice

(1954)Directed by Victor Saville142 minDrama, Romance, History
“I bid you seek the lost Silver Cup - for Sin is rising like the swollen rivers...”

A Greek silversmith is summoned to cast the cup of the Last Supper and carve the faces of the disciples, and Jesus himself, around its rim. Basil (Paul Newman) makes the journey from Jerusalem toward Rome, while Simon the Magician (Jack Palance) draws crowds by passing off cheap tricks as miracles. Victor Saville stages it on a huge scale, and the cup, if Basil fails, will never be made.
