The Sky Crawlers

Yuichi Kannami (Ryo Kase) arrives at a remote air base to take up his post as a fighter pilot, flying in a war that adults stage as public entertainment. His squadron is made of Kildren, people who stay adolescents forever, and the commander, Suito Kusanagi (Rinko Kikuchi), watches him with a stillness he can't read. Mamoru Oshii keeps Yuichi in the cockpit and at the mess table, a young man who knows any morning could be his last and still comes to breakfast.
