The Snow Queen
“Behind the beauty and romance of a fairy tale, a large world of genuine passions and human feelings arises.”
In a Soviet adaptation of Andersen's fairy tale, the Snow Queen (Natalya Klimova) carries off a boy named Kai (Vyacheslav Tsyupa) to her kingdom of ice. His friend Gerda (Elena Proklova) goes after him, and her road leads through a king's castle and a band of forest robbers. Gennadi Kazansky stages it all in the storybook manner of 1967, with painted-looking sets and costumes.
